cutecatcalls is an ongoing project where I take anonymous catcall and harassment stories and turn them into illustrations. Catcalls are not cute. They are a gross, normalised behaviour, that makes minority genders feel unsafe, uncomfortable and objectified. This project serves as a spotlight on this normalised patriarchal behaviour that is often swept under the rug as "banter" or "boys being boys". This response is not "women overacting" or being "sensitive" it is us calling out a key part of culture that needs to change in order to change the wider picture of equality. The project was recently discussed at Roehampton's Women's Leadership Conference 2019 alongside Helen Pankhurst. It has also seen support from Jameela Jamil, Gina Martin, Munroe Bergdof, UNWomenUK, gurlstalk and Women of Illustration.
